Emergency: “An unforeseen occurrence or combination of circumstances which calls for immediate action or remedy”
If you interact regularly with people, you know that accidents happen. Fortunately, most often these incidents are insignificant, resulting in simple scrapes and bruises. We generally accept that minor injuries and illnesses are part of life. However, there are times when people suffer from significant medical problems. For example automobile accidents, serious falls, choking, serious bleeding, near drowning, poisoning, heart attack, seizures and allergic reactions can be very frightening and devastating for patients and rescuers alike.
The “Be Prepared” Course is medically based, following the same priorities of care used by professional emergency care providers. Specific to learning philosophy, the course establishes skill retention through increased skill practice and repetition. Knowledge retention is gained through course content simplification and independent study. Teaching courses in a low stress environment is also key to course philosophy. The course needs to be conducted in a relaxed, encouraging atmosphere, focusing on positive reinforcement throughout participant skill development.
Simplification of training, along with the philosophy of conducting the course in a low stress educational environment, allows participants to comfortably focus on learning the basic skills. |
